Pastor Theodore Ceasar approached me with a need for a generic CD label template where he could change out the date, time, and sermon title to compliment the videos I complied for him. I created a label to compliment his preaching style and portrait provided. In addition a Microsoft Publisher and iPages template was created and training provided to show him how to edit the label as needed.
A generic template was needed. Pastor Ceasar is a fairly new preacher and has not created a brand for himself yet. Whether we want to admit it or not people typically size a preacher up by what they wear and their teaching style. I was asked to work with a portrait of him, he wanted placed on the label that he would provide. I personally observed that most Sundays you could spot him wearing stripes. After getting additional feedback from him I was able to create a styleboard of words that needed to be captured in the design.
Within three ideation phases, I showed him the strongest coming out of each phase. Typically phase one reminds me to ask the "Six W Questions". Besides the photo the individuals purchasing his CD/DVDs needed to know His name, Title of the Sermon, and/or Date of the Sermon, what type of media it is, and the Copyright information.
I ventured into playing with various textures of fabric you would typically find on the pastor, as well as the patterns and colors pulled from his picture.
The final product consisted of two templates for an Avery label, one for CDs the other for DVDs. Two types of files were developed, one compatible with Microsoft Publisher and the other for Apple's iPages 08.
I showed him how to change out and position titles that were both long and short in iPages and Publisher.
